[Oct 20th Pre-Meeting] Directory and Services Presentation from EdBacker

Gary and Mary Ellen from EdBacker did a presentation during our pre-meeting from 6-7 pm tonight (October 20, 2014). We found out we were competing tonight with the More Seats for More Students elementary conversation at Gunston tonight, so we are posting this online.

Access to the directory online would be free.
Service include no-sweat fundraisers, PTA membership dues, funding for specific initiatives.

They are looking to develop school stores and more robust membership with the State PTA. Listserv and newsletter functionality will be available in January 2015.

View the PowerPoint presented tonight.

If any PTAs are interested or have additional questions, feel free to contact Gary or Mary Ellen directly.

We have Reflections Co-Chairs!

Thank you to Veronica Folz and Sherry Rheinhart, who have stepped up to coordinate the County-wide Reflections awards in January!

Thank you to former Reflections chairman Michael Swisher, who has agreed to assist them.

This dynamic team still needs a few more people to help setup for the event. If you have any questions, or would like to volunteer to help, please contact them.

Important Info from CCPTA President Ted Hayes

Hello all---

Welcome to the final week before our kids go back to school!  Not that I'm counting...

Attached please find the CCPTA meeting schedule on the CCPTA Meeting Dates and Locations page.  As usual, we will meet on the THIRD Monday of the month (EXCEPT FOR January & February 2015).  Our first meeting will be on Monday, 15 September 2014, at 7pm in the Ed Center. The CCPTA Board met last week to get our priorities in order.  We're coming off a sometimes contentious year, and many of the same issues will carry over into this year.  Appreciating that many carry-over issues still need to be settled, this year our CCPTA priorities will be:
  1. Reflections chair: This is U-R-G-E-N-T.  We can have multiple leaders each taking a small piece: planning, on-site set-up, food, printing, etc. Please contact me, if you want to get involved.
  2. Family & Community Engagement:  Please take a moment to read over and comment back to us on the attached policy draft.  The proposed policy concerns family & community engagement.  All feedback welcome!
  3. 1-to-1 technology initiative:  CCPTA VP Chris Ditta will be working with APS senior staff to help evaluate current initiatives.
  4. In-school enrichment policy:  I will be leading a quick-turn ad hoc committee to coordinate with APS senior staff & PTAs to help shape a policy everyone can live with.  I have a few potential participants in mind but please contact me if you're interested.
  5. Directories: We are working to identify some options for school directories.  Please let me know if your PTA has good ideas you'd be willing to share with others.
Other areas, such as transportation and MSMS, are also important and we hope to be able to support PTA/APS initiatives as needed.

We see CCPTA continuing to play an important role in bringing PTAs together and creating community.  I and the CCPTA Board hope you will join in with us.

Enjoy the week, the long weekend, and see you on the 15th!
Ted Hayes
President, CCPTA

Welcome to the 2014-15 School Year!

Goodbye, Summer, and hello to another year of extraordinary learning with the fantastic staff, students and families that make up the Arlington Public School system!

Our CCPTA Executive Board has already been hard at work, planning how to make this year a successful one. The monthly CCPTA meetings are packed with terrific information and, most importantly, opportunities for PTAs to share tips and tricks with one another. We encourage PTAs to remain plugged in at the County PTA level, which means making sure you have a parent CCPTA representative as a PTA position within your leadership, and making sure your representative is able to report about important topics we discussed to your PTA membership during your monthly meetings.

As always, we will help the Arlington PTAs in each school keep on top of news and initiatives from around the County. We have a member of the School Board, the Superintendent and/or senior APS staff in attendance at every CCPTA meeting. It is a great place to hear about APS initiatives firsthand and ask questions of APS administration about topics important to the entire APS community.

We wish everyone a safe and happy Labor Day weekend, and a great first day of school!
Your CCPTA Executive Board
Ted, Linley, Chris and Kathleen
